Essex Senior League

Wednesday 3rd March 2010 - Kick Off 7.45pm

The Braves started slowly in this league match and only the brilliance of keeper Michael Wakefield kept the opposition at bay as they completely dominated the first 30 minutes of the game. Having said that the Manor boys suddenly came to life and Courtney Linton volleyed just wide and Danny Clarke had a decent effort ruled out for offside.

In the 40th minute the Braves forced a corner through good work by Clark and a great delivery from Paul Marin was headed forcibly home by Carl Bailey. Straight after the Manor were a trifle unfortunate to concede an own goal to level the scores. Clark soon had a chance to put the home side back in front but was foiled as the Burnham keeper made an excellent save. From the resulting corner Carl Bailey was again unmarked in the visitors box and powered home another header to restore the lead for the Braves.

After the break, a jittery Braves outfit was soon sliced open by the visitors who took full advantage to equalise. Worse was to follow as a lack of communication at the back of the Manor defence gifted the visitors a third goal to make the score 2-3. The Braves went for the leveller and were inches away with great efforts from Mike Marin and Lloyd Butler and should have scored during a hectic goalmouth scramble.

Failure to convert these close efforts cost the Manor dear as the visitors counter attacked to great effect and took their chance to make it 4-2. Danny Clarke was fouled late on and Lloyd Butler tucked home the penalty to give the home side a consolation.

Manor first team coach Paul Norris summed up the frustration after the game. He said: "It's the same mistakes that we keep making and we had the chances in this game to win it. Over the two games of the past few days we think we've done enough to take more than 1 point, but that's our luck at the moment."
