Poor finishing cost
Manor dear this afternoon, chances came and went in a
game that had error after error due to the bad conditions.
Two days of constant rain made sure the surface was very
greasy and mistakes were bound to materialise for both
sides. Manor started the slower of the two sides and was
constantly getting caught out down the flanks, the
inevitable happened and the visitors raced into a two
goal lead after
getting caught on the break time after time. This was
most definitely not the same side that Manor hit for four
away from home in September. A severe tongue lashing at
half time seemed to have kick started the home side in
the second half, as straight from the off Tony Marsh raced
through the heart of Stansted’s midfield riding
three challenges along the way, before smashing a right
foot shot into the corner of the net beyond the keeper.
This was just the start Manor needed, but unfortunately
they failed to capitalise on any of the other chances
that came their way, as Forde missed a hat trick of chances
and Whitelock had a superb header saved by the keeper
and then saw his quality 35yd drive from a free kick smash
against the bar and rebound to safety. But Manor knew
that it wasn’t to be when Forde was upended in the
box and the ref pointed to the spot, Forde walked up to
take the kick, when the ref suddenly changed his mind
and gave a drop ball on the half way line. This was the
last nail in the Manor coffin on a poor afternoon. The
Manor M.O.M. went to Lee Whitelock, a great debut, with
plenty more to come.
