Pamplin Fires Manor To New Heights

Saturday 18th October
Fifth in the league, unbeaten in eight, and no goals conceded in five matches, has put the present Manor side into the record books, the last time a Manor side put such a run together was way back in the 1985/86 season according to information supplied by the Chairman of the league, and then it was only six unbeaten with one clean sheet on the way.
This was always going to be a tight game, as Apsa have put some good results together in recent weeks and are fast becoming a side not to be taken lightly. However it was Manor who started the better of the two and went close to taking the lead when Pamplin fired just wide of the up right after some poor defending by Apsa, Manor carved out a few half chances but were denied by the shaky offside trap being played by the home side. On 18 mins Johnny Quinn ever busy in midfield, split the Apsa defence with a superbly weighted through ball, and it was left to Asa Pamplin to finish the job, which he did in fine style, volleying the ball home in off the bar from some 25yds. It was to be the only goal of the game as both sides went close with Manor carving out the better chances. Lee Hudson had the ball in the net but was given off side and then both Quinn and Connolly seeing their free kicks strike the woodwork. The miss of the game went to Toma Efejuku the Manor striker was left with the easiest of headers from a mere 3yds with the goal at his mercy somehow managed to head the ball over the bar. Despite the drama Manor held on to their slender lead and created a new record along the way. Manors M.O.M went to Fola stuck to his task and was a major player in Manor’s victory today.

Team: Prince, Snazel, Scales, Young, Marsh, Connolly, Fola, Quinn, Hudson, Pamplin, Forde
Subs – Efejuku, Marks, Richards, Jenkins, Knapman.
