The new season
couldn’t have started any worse for the Manor,
five goals put past them in their first game and two
players dismissed in the last 15mins. It was a big disappointment
as good things were expected of this newly formed Manor
side, with only Bradley Knapman remaining from last
season manor were looking for a result in this opening
game, but instead got a lesson in finishing and football
from a young Burnham side.
3-0 down inside 25min, with all three strikes being
of the highest quality, it took a piece of individual
skill from Delroy Forde to give the Manor some kind
of hope and way back into the game, picking the ball
up just inside the Burnham half Forde tormented the
oppositions defence raced into the box and sent the
keeper the wrong way with a low crisp drive into the
corner of the net. But almost immediately the tables
turned yet again when hotly disputed penalty was awarded
to the home side when their player seemed to fall of
his own accord, and so Manor went in 4-1 down at the
break. Despite the score line Manor were never out of
the game and with the wind now behind them looked more
than capable of clawing their way back into the game,
Glen Connolly started to find more space in midfield
and with Tony Marsh in absolutely inspirational form
Manor created a number of second half chances but were
unable to convert any of them. Their task turned into
the impossible when both Pinion and Quinn were dismissed
for fighting with 15mins left, and to add insult to
injury captain Gary Scales turned the ball into his
own net on 90mins to complete a bad day for the Manor.
A lot will be learnt from both the game and result with
some positive points to build on but from a managers
point of view far to many negative ones. Tony Marsh
was Manors
M.O.M. a true professional who played right up to the
final whistle.
