A quality performance
from Danny Midford made sure Manor was always in with
a shout in this closely fought fixture. Manor started
to dominate from the off, but looked susceptible to the
counter attack as they pushed forward in the hope of making
an early breakthrough, both Pamplin and Hudson went close
for the home side as Manor pushed forward, but when a
manor throw fell to an opponent, a long hopeful ball was
played up field completely catching the Manor defence
off guard and the visitor went 1-0 up. Chances came and
went for both sides, but when a Tony Marsh throw found
Lee Hudson, he sent a cheeky flick over the advancing
Bowers defence, and Delroy Forde raced through to lob
the keeper from 12yds for the equaliser. Manor were again
wining the midfield battle with Danny Midford and (Big)
Toma Efejuku upsetting the visitors with their determination,
strength and tough tackling. But it was again a mix up
in defence that put the visitors ahead just before the
break. 2-1 down with the second half remaining, both sides
had everything to play for, and both had chances to increase
the scoring, and it was left to Manor’s Lee Hudson
to strike the next blow, following a free kick, the ball
dropped just outside the visitors area and as Efejuku’s
presence unnerved the defence, Hudson raced in to drive
the ball home from 18yds. Manor had the chance to wrap
the game up when a headed clearance from the Bowers keeper
went straight to the on rushing Lee
Hudson, his first time shot looped over everyone, but
just went the wrong side of the post. A fair result in
the end, with both teams giving their all.
Manor’s M.O.M. went to Danny Midford, covered every
blade of grass, in a brilliant midfield display.
