Despite a good team
performance Manor again paid the price for poor finishing
as Sawbo took all three points with two goals in the last
10 mins.
Fielding a side depleted by injuries and suspensions,
Manor looked quite comfortable and were looking the better
of the two sides for long periods of the game. Chances
were few on a pitch resembling a ploughed field, but both
teams carved out chances with the home side keeper making
some fine stops from, Forde, Midford & Whitelock,
and Prince, in goal for the Manor, never had a save to
make in the first half.
The second half saw the home side step up the tempo and
it was Manor who needed to dig in and defend, pressure
eventually told and Sawbo took the lead, with a deflected
goal from a corner. This seemed to bring the Manor back
to life and when a Lee Whitelock free kick found the head
of Davey Young, Manor were back on level terms, as the
ball
rocketed into the top corner of the net, this was Young’s
first ever goal in two years of playing for the club.
Manor were looking good for at least a point out of the
game, but it wasn’t to be as the home side struck
twice in the last 10 mins to seal the points. Manor’s
m.o.m. went to the whole side for a gritty performance
that deserved more.
Manager Kirk Whitelock said after the game, “ it’s
always hard coming here, and you rarely go home with a
point, but I was extremely proud of the players today,
they gave their all, but it wasn’t to be. Fair play
to Sawbo, they're on a run and are looking good, our main
problem at the moment is scoring, but I won’t panic,
and neither should the players, I’m more than happy
with the squad and we will just work our way through the
barren spell ”.
