Despite twice
taking the lead Manor still managed to come away empty
handed in this league fixture. After Saturday’s
humiliating defeat Manor need a boost by getting some
kind of result from what looked and proved to be a tough
match. Johnny Quinn gave Manor a well deserved lead
in the first half as they played some quality football,
Lee Hudson back from injury was causing problems for
the home sides defence as he tormented them time after
time and Tony Marsh had another outstanding game at
the back, yet again proving just what a great signing
he has been for the club. Manor lead 1-0 at the break
but Abbey pulled level thanks to a dubious penalty awarded
against Lee Hudson, but Hudson was soon to redeem himself
when he put Manor back in the driving seat for the second
time in the match. Chances came and went for both sides
with all the Manor players showing full commitment to
the cause after their recent poor display. However it
wasn’t to be as a combination of bad refereeing
and bad luck let Abbey back into the game, which they
went on to win with two strikes, one in the last 5 mins
of the match and then the other after some 6mins of
injury time had been played. A disappointing night for
the Manor dropping three points that at one stage had
looked secure. Pluses on the night were full commitment
from the players and proof that the players are more
that capable of turning their misfortune around.
Manager Kirk Whitelock was full of admiration for his
players after a tough match, he said “ I feel
for the boys after this match we deserved to get something,
but again came away with nothing, I can’t fault
any of them tonight they gave their all, but once again
it was not to be, as some poor decisions went against
us and cost us dearly”.
