Wednesday 1st October

What a night, Manor visited the super hoops and showed them how to play the game of football. From the first whistle this local derby was
always going to be a fiery affair, with Manor fielding no less than seven ex Ilford players, all out to prove a point. With Pamplin leading from the front and Quinn alongside Midford in midfield Manor pushed forward from the off, so dominant were the Manor side that Ilfords defence started looking decidedly shaky and never recovered for the rest of the match. Pamplins presence up front was causing all sorts of problems and he should have come off at the interval with a hat trick to his name, but he was denied twice by the keeper and once by the woodwork. Manor did get the ball into the net when Delroy Forde controlled a superb Tony Marsh through ball, turned his marker and fired home from 20yds only to find he had been given offside. Level at the break and a shell shocked Ilford looked more than happy for the break, however the onslaught continued in the second half with Manor playing the better football and Ilford resorting to the long ball from just about everywhere on the park. The home side finally had something go their way when they were awarded a penalty, however Manor keeper Carl Prince kept the scores level when he pulled off a fine save, the only one he had to make all night. Manor were still looking for the breakthrough and Pamplin, Midford,Quinn, and Forde all had the chance to give Manor the lead but were foiled by some good keeping. Level at the end, but two points dropped on the night by Manor who were desperately unlucky not to have won. Manors M.O.M. went to David Snazel, the boy just gets better every game, one to watch out for in the future. Manager Kirk Whitelock said after the game, “ I’m immensely proud of all the boys tonight, should have taken maximum points, but we’re happy with a draw, after all, we are considered to be the leagues whipping boys, 5 games unbeaten now, can’t be that bad a side can we!!!!!
