The Manor stepped out to play Barkingside tonight on
the back of a superb win against Brentwood two days
previous. Good to see such a big turnout for the Manor
who were playing in their new Yellow and Black away
kit for the first time.
As in previous games the Manor started off slowly allowing
Barkingside to dominate early in the game. Some fine
saves from Carl Prince kept the scores level early in
the game. Then the Manor started to edge into the game
thanks to some good work from Johnny Quinn in the centre
of Midfield, Grant Smith playing his normal wing back
position down the right ensured plenty of supply into
the Barkingside penalty area. 20 minutes into the first
half and Manor having the more possession saw Lee Whitelock
on one of his charges through the middle get upended
by a Barkingside defender, up stepped Quinny and blasted
the free kick from 35 yards hitting the bar, the ball
smashing downwards and McCarthy in the right place at
the right time nudged the ball into the net 0-1 to the
Manor. The boys from the Manor obviously not content
with the one goal advantage pilled more pressure on
the Barkingside defence, Asa Pamplin collected the ball
just outside the opposition area and turned sharply
to fire the ball just wide of the post. Now is it was
McCarthy's turn to torment the Barkingside defence,
turning and weaving through 3 or 4 players to plant
a shot on target, rebounded back out to the feet of
Chris Barrett who gladly planted the ball into the net,
0-2 up for the Manor.
Second half the Manor Boys came out on to the pitch
fired up after a half time pep talk from Brian Partridge
Manors Assistant Manager. The Manor looked sharp and
hungry for more as they stepped up the pressure on the
Barkingside defence, Midford using his strength down
the middle and feeding the strikers with plenty of quality
balls in the area meant that Barkingside were pinned
in to their own half for long periods. Sammy Marks also
doing a sterling job supported by Mr 100% himself Tony
Marsh proved too much for Barkingside. Marks long ball
switching play created Manors Third goal, sending Sammy
McCarthy off on a one on one then rounded the keeper
to slot home his second. The Manor started to play one
touch football to the great delight of the many travelling
away fans. When Barkingside did attack the ever present
and consistent David Snazel was there to spoil proceedings
and helped to build the 4th goal by looping a ball to
Quinny who sent Sammy Marks down the right hand side
who in return fed McCarthy with a perfect pass for his
hatrick.
Manor can take great joy & pride for their performance
tonight. A great team spirit is forming at the Manor
these days, each player giving 100% for each other.
The Manor Man of the Match goes to Chris Barrett
for a superb all round performance.
