Essex Senior League Reserves

Saturday 13th November 2004

1st Half

After such a good result in the Essex Cup we were down to the bare bones today. Due to injuries and the flu we were missing five key players.

With the team Mickey and I put out today we could not have asked for more regarding effort and determination from every player. Young Jesse Templeman made his full debut at left back and played very well. Man of the Match, Frank Curle, was outstanding in the centre of midfield, creating and tackling all afternoon and Steve Jolly was solid as a rock at centre back. We took the game to Hullbridge and reaped our reward with a well-taken free kick from Nicky Pinder that ended up in the back of the net after 39 minutes. 1-0 at half time.

2nd Half

In the second half we dug in deep to keep the game at 1-0 to us only to concede a free kick to the side of the penalty area. Hullbridge scored with a very good free kick over Paul Buck and into the net. We then made a change up front and Micky Daley Senior went on and straight away was commanding the forward line like he had never retired. Ever the acrobat he tried an overhead kick and missed it completely. With 15 minutes left we made another change and Gareth Collins, playing his last game before emigrating to Australia, came off and the youthful Terry March went on at right back to push Adam Hole to right midfield and try to win the game. We continued to pressurise the Hullbridge goal only for them to hang on to draw 1-1.

MANAGERS COMMENTS

Micky and I were very pleased with the way the team played today especially with the bare eleven and two old boys on the bench. Jesse playing at left back and Michael Daley playing at centre back, both out of position, done very well. Adam and Jolly were as solid as ever, the midfield worked their socks off and Nicky and Goochy worked hard up front. A special mention for Paul Buck who kept us in the game with a well saved shot at the far post. To all eleven players we would like to say well done.

To Gareth Collins I would like to say on behalf of all the players, Micky and myself, we hope you have a safe journey to the Land of Oz. We wish you good luck with your new life and we hope you will be very happy there. Remember to keep in contact with us.
