The Manor welcome
their guests Wingate & Finchley from the Ryman League
on this Sunny Sunday afternoon. The prize, is a place
in the 1st Qualifying Round of the FA Cup against East
Thurrock United.

The home side
look the more threatening in the opening minutes, when
a sublime ball played over the top of the retreating
Wingate defence, into the path of inform Striker Ricky
Defretias, Wingate keeper, David ;ovell alert to the
danger slides out, sweeping the ball from beneath the
feet of Defretias.

A few minutes
later, Manor's Tasewell Thompson wins the ball on the
by-line, the defender spells off the pitch, leaving
the Manor front man time as he pushes towards goal,
slices the ball into the path of Phil Vermeuken, who
squares the ball into the path of Lee Canham, who blasts
a shot just over the bar.

7 minutes gone
and Manor's Tony Marsh is up ended 30 yards from goal,
Wallace steps up and smashes the ball against the Wingate
wall out for a throw.
11 minutes gone
and Wingate's first attack on the Manor goal, down the
right, a delightful cross to the far post, a simple
tap-in from an unmarked player, as Wingate take the
lead 1-0.

16 minutes, Wingate,
seemingly finding a weakness down the right-hand side,
yet again sending a great ball into the danger area,
this time Darren Smyth Manor keeper making a crucial
save as he palms it out for a throw.
The Manor now
driving the ball down the Wingate left, Thompson using
his pace to bamboozle the Wingate defence, brings the
ball to the edge of the area and blasts over the bar.
Manor's Phil
Vermeuken, taking the game to Wingate as he surges down
the right hand-side, doing a great holding job and is
difficult to knock off the ball, places a great pass
into the path of Ray Coker who smashed it into the safe
hands of Lovell.

20 minutes gone
and the Manor having the majority of the possession,
continue to be a constant threat to the Wingate goal,
where as, Wingate have only had two attacks on goal
and scored one!
Jamie Wallace,
Phil Vermeuken and Lee Canham all working hard to create
an opening in the Wingate defence, Canham. in particular
never stops running, constantly breaking up any Wingate
attacks in the middle of the park.

Wingate on a
rare attack, No 9 Dean Williams showing his blistering
pace finds a yard of space and unselfishly passes to
his right, luckily for the Manor Chris Barratt seeing
the danger puts a foot in to spoil the opportunity,
out for a corner, the corner whipped in and headed away
by Ray Coker, the ball collected and brought away by
Ricky Defretias, Defreitas sees Thompson who finds some
space, Defretias plants the ball to Thompson with the
ball at his feet, charges the Wingate defence, turning
them inside out, finds half a yard inside the box, once
again, Lovell the Wingate keeper quick to react and
slides the ball away from the frustrated Manor Striker.

Vermeuken, once
again finding some room down the right, whips in a great
cross onto the head of Defretias, keeper collects.
Tasewell Thompson
and Ricky Defreitas combining well, Thompson edging
towards goal is up ended 35 yards from goal. Barratt
takes but again the Wingate Keeper, wide awake to defuse
another Manor attack.

32 minutes and
Darren Smyth Called into action, Wingate again enjoying
lots of room down the Manor left, cross the ball in,
and Smyth palms it out for a corner.
Wingate now starting
to dominate the game, but were caught on the counter,
the visitors take their 4th corner, again Smyth palms
the ball clear to Defretias, who collects the ball and
heads off towards the Wingate's goal, as he twists and
turns the defence inside out, just inside the box, finds
some room and smashes the ball low, just inches past
the post, Defreitas holds his head in his hands in frustration!

The Manor nearly
draw level, when the Wingate keeper, gets caught in
possession outside his box, Ray Coker de possess the
stricken keeper as he goes to ground, the ref waving
play on leaves Coker heading towards goal with an empty
net, the angle not quite right, decides to loft the
ball high onto the head of incoming strikers, Defreitas
and Thompson, but enough time for Wingate defence to
regroup and clear the immediate danger! The ball only
cleared as far as Lee Canham, however, ref blows to
allow the keeper treatment!!

50th minute and
against the run of play once more, Wingate take advantage
of some sloppy defending, too much room allows Wingate
to score their second from a close range, chip over
Darren Smyths head! making it 2-0 to Wingate!

The second period
and Defreitas coming close, blasts his shot just over
the bar. Wingate now threaten, down the right, the ball
fed into the area to Simon Patterson, who blasts the
ball into the hands of Darren Smyth.

The Manor allowing
Wingate plenty of opportunities to extend their lead.
The Manor now playing far to deep and encouraging Wingate
forward!
Tasewell Thompson,
notices the keeper out of his area tries to chip, but
the balls goes over the bar.

The second period
becoming a dull affair, both teams zero each other out,
the officials not allowing the game to flow unlike the
first period.

Childo Ukalgwa
on for the hard working Phil Vermeuken. Ukalgwa straight
into the action as he takes up possession on the right
hand-side, spills down the wing, takes a few nips to
the ankle but stays on his feet, cuts the ball into
Defretias who is crowded out.

Tasewell working
hard, collects the ball on the edge of the area, turns
his back to goal, then twists as he fires a shot in,
rebounds off the hand of a defender, the ball falls
to the feet of Tasewell who pokes the ball towards goal,
the keeper takes the sting out of the ball, however
the ball rolls over the goal-line, the Official blows
for a penalty, and gives a red Card for handball. Jamie
Wallace steps up to take the penalty, another fabulous
save by David Lovell, the ball rebounds into the path
of Neil Barratt who smashes the ball onto the post!

Wallace trying
to make up for the missed penalty, attacks Wingate,
into the area and blasts the ball low and hard, Lovell
who is having an excellent game, denies Wallace once
more by pushing the ball wide.

As the clock
ticks down, both teams missing opportunities. The game
finally finishing 2-0 to the Wingate. The Visitors obviously
over-joy'd at their success. The Manor worked hard but
failed to find the killer touch on the day.
Congratulations
to Wingate & Finchley, they came and did what was
needed to win the tie, everyone connected with Eton
Manor wish them well for the remainder of the Season.
