League Cup (Group D)

Wednesday 29th October 2008 - Kick Off 7:45pm

The Manor were a little slow to get going against their opponents and if anything the visitors had the better of the exchanges early on.

The opening goal came for the Manor , slightly against the run of play when the ever improving Joe May hoisted a free kick from the right flank, into the box, where Carl Bailey was on hand to power a header into the roof of the net.

Now the Manor started to play and it was no surprise when Scott Lovett put them two up after turning a Barkingside defender and shooting low past the keeper.

The visitors pulled one back from what seemed to be an offside position. Half time arrived with the Manor leading 2-1. After the break the Manor emphasised their domination when Joe May robbed a defender down the right and proceeded to chip the keeper for a superb goal from 23 yards.

It did not take long for another goal to come for the Manor when after 65 minutes keeper Nick Wilson picked out Courtney Linton with a deliberate clearance and the Manor striker slotted home from a fairly acute angle to make it 4-1.

For some unexplicable reason the Manor now allowed the visitors back into the game by switching off and casual defending in turn meant the Manor conceded two late goals.

Although this galvanised a Barkingside team that had seemed down and out it was to be of no avail and the Manor ran out winners, 4-3.

MAN OF THE MATCH -- Scott Lovett, whose all action, non stop running was a constant irritant to the visitors defence.

Manor manager Kevin Durrant said "I was well pleased with our performance when we went 4-1 up but we then thought that we could throw our game plan out of the window and let Barkingside back into the game. The team have to realise that we keep our tempo and tactics going right the way through to the final whistle."
