The wheels came
well and truly off Manor's League Cup campaign on a
cheerless Tuesday night at 'Chadfields'."Dire"
was how Manor boss Kirk Whitelock described his sides
performance, few in the sparse crowd would disagree
with him.
In truth Manor
were second best in every department, as a well drilled
Brentwood side extended their slender first leg advantage
with a clinical display of finishing.
5 minutes gone and already the writing was on the wall
for Manor. Heavy Brentwood pressure saw Steve Richards
much the busier of the two keepers.

12 minutes, Manor's
first real glimpse at goal. Johnny Quinn's free kick
comfortably held by Brentwood keeper Chris Clarke.
25 minutes, Brentwood
extend the first leg advantage, hint of offside, but
Tom Hall gives Steve Richards no chance with a decisive
finish.
40 minutes, Clear
daylight in the tie as Brentwood go two up on the night.
An element of good fortune, as Richards slips and diverts
Mark Doyle's shot into the net.
Half time arrives,
Manor run ragged by confident Brentwood side, Steve
Redding bravely battling the effects of the flu, but
even the normally reliable Manor Skipper was struggling
to keep up with pacey Brentwood strikers.
Manor came out
in the second half with nothing else to lose. Some early
success as they force their first corner of the night,
Brentwood clear the danger, but normal service is soon
resumed.
55 minutes and
the tie is effectively over. Manor full back, Mark Clarey,
takes wrong option and weak header finds Paul Carr.
The Brentwood striker does the rest.

65 minutes, Steve
Richards saves the home side further embarrassment with
two fine stops, in as many minutes. Brentwood's Paul
Carr is also unlucky, as astute chip leaves home keeper
rooted to the spot. The ball strikes the base of the
far post before rebounding into play.
66 minutes Double
situation for the Manor, as Hammond and Spicer replace
Leary and Tarten.
70 minutes. Some
nice touches from Manor new boy Matty Spicer. He looks
one for the future, but is powerless to prevent Brentwood's
fourth, as Danny Macklin goes one on one with Steve
Richards and the result is inevitable.
72 minutes. Super
sub, Chris Hammond has the only Manor chance of the
second half, he does well to create an opening, but
for once his shot lacks the venom to trouble Chris Clark
in the Brentwood goal.
73 minutes. Assistant
Manager Graham Chester is brought into action, but has
little time to make an impression.
75 minutes. Mark
Doyle completes the rout, as again Manor's defence are
pulled all over the place and Doyle takes advantage
of the lack of communication firing home his second
of the night.

85 minutes. Manor at least salvage some pride as they
mount their only sustained period of pressure of the
game. The performance is summed up as Glenn Connelly,
in on goal, stumbles over the ball, he has time to recover,
but then stumbles again as Brentwood clear the danger.
Connelly distraught, as he knows he'll get merciless
ribbing in the changing room.
90 minutes. The
nightmare is over for the Manor, as Ref calls time on
a match they'll want to forget as soon as possible.
Lots of credit to Brentwood, they have impressed the
Manor management this season, with their crisp first
time passing. The game could yet make them dark horses
for this Cup.

Manor manager
Kirk Whitelock is at least philosophical after the game
" No excuses. The scoreline says it all, I thought
we were very poor tonight. We've not been at our best
in the last few games, but you don't become a bad side
overnight. Results like this can bring a team together.
We need to learn from it and move forward, it's a team
effort. I want the coaches more involved in tactics,
we failed to do the basics tonight, switch play, picking
up our men, it just wasn't happening. I've asked Jenko
and Neil to work on these things at training. It's time
we became a bit more professional in how we approach
things and that starts this Thursday. I believe in these
lads and know they can turn it around, but there's hard
work to be done."
Man
of the match going to the Manor's Lee Canham,
the best of a bad bunch, worked hard in a losing cause.
