Essex Senior League

Monday 28th March 2005

Then Manor starting this game with 4 first team regulars out due to injury and saw 5 debuts on the day. The game kicked off at a blistering pace and The Manor nearly opened the scoring in the first minute of the game when a perfectly weighted ball down the left which dropped into the path of Jay Felice and from 20 yards blasted the ball into the grateful hands of Sawbo's number 1, shortly followed a second opportunity when new defender Urfat Hussain sent a delightful ball over the advancing Sawbo defence and into the path of Graham Chester who unfortunately for the Manor hit his shot just off target.

The Braves continued to bombard the Robins defence, Jay Felice & Joe Morritt terrorising Sawbo's back four with some skilful one two's followed by a gentle back heel from Felice on to the waiting foot of Morritt who smashed the ball towards goal, the Robins keeper having to pull of a magnificent save to keep the score 0-0.

20 minutes on the clock and Prosper Lobe making his presence known with some strong tackling, also proving extremely hard to shake off the ball, sent a great ball to Felice who forced a corner kick. The corner taken quickly by Morritt this time the danger cleared by a resolute Sawbo defence.

25 minutes and Sawbo hit their first goal from a free kick 1-0 to the Robins. The Manor at this stage rightly feel disappointed as the Braves had much of the play and a good appeal for offside before the goal was scored.

In the 35th minute Sawb'o sending a long ball deep into the Manor Area, Steve Richards Manor keeper called and appeared to drop the ball to the feet of a Sawb'o striker making it 2-0 before the break. The Manor still trying to play fluent Football kept positive and nearly got their rewards when Morritt's 30 yard free kick sneaked over the bar. 2-0 at half time.

The second half and Sawbo strike early making it 3-0 to the Robins. The Manor still working hard in the centre of the park, new boy Lee Smith playing some great football, Lee showing real potential as he controlled the ball and planted some excellent passes to the flanks. Prosper Lobe proving a real handful and looked unmovable on the ball.

57 minutes and another debut given to Bill Powell who came on for Graham Chester and Ray Coker on for David Dowling at left back. Sawbo nearly making it 4 after some great build up on the right, swinging the ball into the danger area and missing the target from close range.

72 minutes and the Manor appeared to lose their composer as Sawbo now pick up the pace and change into the Manor half.

73 minutes gone and Chris Hammond on for Morritt.

New signing Ray Coker looking solid in defence as he breaks down another Sawbo attack. Another Robins attack thwarted by Richards as he blocked a cracking shot from 20 yards. Manor come close this time Chris Hammond spins off two defenders and attacked deep in the Sawbo half, sending a great cross onto the head of Bill Powell which creeps just over the bar. The last attack of the game the Manor still working hard break through the tight Sawbo defence Lee Smith going solo and from 35 yards fires a rocket just past the post.

On the day Sawbo taking all 3 points, however, the Manor can pick some positives from the game. Lee Smith talented 23 year old Central midfielder looked composed and lively on the ball and took Manor Man of the Match honours. Urfat Hussian ex London APSA skipper & likeable defender playing his first full game for the Manor, looked quality on the ball, his work rate was 100% and made many friends on the day.

Despite the scoreline the Manor can look forward to better times, with Whitelock and McDonald continuing to work tremendously hard for the club and finding new signings of the quality seen today, then it will be just a matter of time before the results start coming.
