Before the kick off there was
a certain buzz from the Manor camp who always look forward
to visiting their old friends and rivals Barkingside.
Both these old Clubs have much in common the thought
of a close encounter and a good game is always an expectation
that never disappoints. Tonight was no exemption. With
a crowd of nearly 100 people the game kicked off at
its normal 100 mile an hour pace, every tackle normally
made with honesty and integrity, tonight however, tackles
were flying in to the point of recklessness, at this
level of Football it is understood that the vast majority
of players still need to get up for work in the morning!.

The game started with Barkingside dominating the first
5 minutes. It wasn't until the 7th minute did the Manor
get their opportunity with a ball well worked from the
back four, Quinny returning from a long break collected
the ball from midfield and drove the ball to Connolly
down the right, taking on the last defender and hooked
the ball into the path of Jay Felice who smashed the
ball wide of the Barkingside post.

12 minutes and Barkingside attack with a high ball
lofted towards the Manor goal, Matty Marsh Manor defender
fouled from behind with a venomous tackle! Ref Blows
for infringement.
14 minutes and Quinny once again with the ball at his
feet sends Paul Docherty off down the centre this time
a crunching tackle leaves Doc poleaxe'd and in agony
on the floor, from the Free Kick Barnes heads the ball
just over the bar.

19 minutes and Errol Gastaule takes the ball down the
Barkingside left to the by-line and whips in a shot,
the Barkingside Keeper Chris Jenkins collects the ball
competently. 20 minutes throw in to the Manor near the
Barkingside corner flag, Connolly to the feet of Prosper
Lobe, who fired his shot from 20 yards, Jenkins again
makes a good save.

25 minutes and Manor keeping good possession, Felice
down the Barkingside right and cutting in towards goal
only to be upended and off the field for treatment!
Free kick and Morritt takes, lifts the ball high into
the danger area to Connolly who shoots and Jenkins making
a great acrobatic save. The heat really on Barkingside
and the Manor looking in full control of the game. 27
minutes Connolly collects the ball from a Barnes header
and attacks the Barkingside goal from the left, brilliantly
going passed two defenders then shooting into the side
netting.

The Manor now trying to sniff out a goal attack again
this time Felice who's work rate was 100% drifted wide
of the Barkingside goal and from 40 yards blasted it
over the bar.
35 minutes and Paul Docherty looking to open up the
Barkingside defence holding the ball in the middle of
the park was upended with a high challenge that left
Docherty needing more treatment off the pitch! A genuine
fear that someone was going to get badly hurt was shared
by many Manor spectators.
The second half and the scores level, 47 minutes and
Darrell Yellop collects the ball down the left and from
about 40 yards from goal sends a high ball into the
Manor area, Steve Richards the Manor Keeper caught flat
footed and the ball cruelly went over his head and into
the net! 1-0 to Barkingside.

52 minutes and this time Tony Barnes required Sue Abercrombie
the busy Manor Physio after a nasty challenge. 55 minutes
from a free kick Jay Felice sending Lobe on a run towards
goal shoots and Jenkins having to make a great save
to stop the Manor from equalising.
67 minutes and Errol Gastaule off for Manor youngster
17 year old striker Bradley Mills. 70 minutes the Manor
unlucky not to score when Morritt fired a bullet inches
away form the Barkingside goal from close range.

76 minutes The Manor send a high ball in from another
free kick only to be scrambled away. Paul Docherty unable
to continue off for Davy Armstrong.
78 minutes and Manor attack again this time Armstrong
down the right charges towards the Barkingside goal,
smooth pass to Quinny who shots only to see his shot
saved by Jenkins.

The Manor now going for the equaliser with shots from
Quinny, Lobe and Connolly to now avail. 84 minutes and
against the run of play saw Barkingside on a rare attack
in the second half, collecting the ball down the centre
and capitalising on one moment's lapse of concentration
by the Manor defence and scored from close range! 2-0
to Barkingside.

Chris Barrett Manor defender stretched off after colliding
with Prosper Lobe with suspected broken ribs. George
Fullbrook on for Barrett and nearly made an impact when
he sent Felice through with a great pass only for Chris
Jenkins to make another tremendous save.
The final minutes where played with Barkingside delaying
the play to the irritation of the crowd and the Manor
players.
The Manor played well tonight and deserved something
from the game. Some patching up to do with the squad
before Saturday. Quinny, Docherty, Lobe, Barrett and
Barnes all needing treatment after the game.
Man of the Match: Chris Jenkins, the
Barkingside Keeper for some fabulous handling. Proved
he really is Essex Counties first choice Keeper.
