David Jenkns Manor first team
coach as been doing a sterling job as acting Manaor
whilst KirkWhitelock took some time out. After todays
game Jenkins said"Well after late player withdrawal
I found that we only had 14 players including myself
and Steve Richards. Myself and Steve Whitelock changed
the team and the formation about 5 times before we settled
on something. A few players played out of position but
done a great job. I would have played to keep to a 4-4-2
but we went with a 3-5-2 and the first 15 Mins was probably
the best we have started all season. Then like so many
times before a simple mistake and we were 1-0. After
25 mins it was 3-0 but we were actually playing well.
All 3 goals were avoidable and were partly due to a
lack of fitness both physically and mentally. At half
time the lads were a bit down but I explained that without
a game in 4 weeks, no training, against the league leaders
who are being paid, we were doing well. The first 20mins
of the 2nd half we were excellent. Burnham scored their
4th after 65mins and to be fair Carl Prince kept the
score down because we visibly tired in the last 15mins.
The game ended and to be honest there were so many more
positives than negatives. Yes we lost 4-0 but that doesn't
tell the whole story. We had quite a few chances ourselves.
With the ball we are excellent and some of our passing
moves were great. But as I keep saying our game off
the ball is poor because of a lack of fitness. I feel
for the boys because I know how frustrating it is to
play when you are not fit and want to do things but
are restricted by your lack of fitness. I think the
league need to look at this next season and prevent
a situation where we have played just 5 games in 4 months.
Now we will be playing Saturday/Tuesday till the end
of the season. On the positive side Carl Prince was
back to his best. Steve Richards was going to start
but was honest enough to tell me he wasn't 100%. But
Carl was exceptional. We have probably two of the best
keepers in the league and it is difficult to choose
between them. After that performance it is beyond me
how Carl is not playing higher but from a selfish point
of you I'm glad he is with us. Danny Beattie has really
come into his own in the past few weeks. A natural leader
and winner, he has taken over from Nicky Mitchell and
that is no small task. When he is fit he will be a great
player. In midfield Doc and Quinny were excellent. They
really compliment each other well and are two more leaders
and winners. To be honest it's first time I've really
seen Doc play and if he runs that much when he's not
fit, when he is fit he will be another great player
for us. Up front Chester had a great debut and proved
to be the missing piece of the jigsaw that we haven't
had since Asa departed. He links attack and midfield
so well and gives us an option if we go long. Young
Steve upfront benefited massively from having a big
man up along side him and its the first time since I've
been coach that we looked dangerous in attack. I thought
Jay did well in centre mid playing just behind the front
two and he to looked dangerous. But at the end of the
day I think this level of football is mainly about fitness.
The football we play is good but its the fitness that
needs to improve. On that note there have been some
positive steps to finding a regular training venue.
Myself and others have been tirelessly phoning and emailing
trying to sort out friendlies and training over the
past few months and most of it has come to a dead end.
But there have been some recent developments that will
hopefully end the training venue saga. Finally I must
say that I have enjoyed my time as stand in Manager.
The lads have given me 100% support, respect and commitment.
Steve Whitelock has been a massive help and having Sue
back has also been good news. I am learning so much
but I can't wait till the big man Kirk is back at the
helm. One thing I can say is that next season will be
a good one for us at the Manor!"
