What a difference a couple of
days make, last Saturday Delroy Forde struggled to find
his scoring boots, but tonight he most definitely had
them on. Maybe it was due to the fact that he had his
old striking partner back alongside him, ( Jay Felice
) whatever it was turned Forde into the kind of player
Manor knew he could be. It was the visitors who started
the livelier of the two sides with a couple of successive
corners bringing keeper Stephen Richards into the action
earlier that the home side would have liked. It was
quick thinking by Richards that set up the first goal
for the Manor, after breaking up a Boro attack his quick
throw found stand in right back Davey Armstrong, who
pushed forward past the Boro midfield and sent a crisp
40yd pass to Forde, his control was superb, as he jinked
passed two Boro defenders, drew the keeper and then
hit a firm shot into the bottom corner of the net, 1-0
Manor. James Morris on the left & Jason Haniff on
the right were both causing the visitors all sorts of
problems with their pacey runs and accurate crossing,
all this led to Felice, Forde, Downs and Whitelock all
going close with a number of chances. On the odd occasion
Boro ventured forward they found the Manor defence holding
fast as the two centre backs Nicky Mitchell and Tony
Marsh stopped any threat posed to them. With Davey Armstrong
pushing forward on the right and causing the visitors
all kinds of problems another goal was on the cards,
again it was his cross field ball that found Morris,
he in turn set Whitelock free in the middle of the park,
and it was his precise pass that cut Boro in two and
allowed Jay Felice to slip the ball under the advancing
keeper from 12yds, 2-0 Manor. With their tails up and
a two goal lead more Manor attacks rained down on the
visitors with best effort falling to James |Morris who
raced through the heart of the midfield and unleashed
a cracking 35yd drive which brought an equally good
save from the Boro keeper. Another Manor attack saw
them score their third of night, as the lighting quick
Jason Haniff latched on to a Armstrong through ball,
beat off the attentions of two Boro defenders and crossed
the ball to the waiting Felice, he laid it into Forde
who turned and cheekily lobbed the advancing keeper
from 8yds, 3-0 Manor and the half time whistle. The
visitors came out after the break and pushed the Manor
back with their constant possession and slick passing,
it was through this that they eventually scored their
first goal as Manor fell asleep from a free kick Boro
slipped the ball past the sleeping Manor players for
their striker to slide the ball past the bewildered
Richards. This certainly kicked started the visitors
into a 10 minute spell of dominance that ended on most
occasions with Stephen Richards pulling off some superb
saves. It was again quick hands from the Manor keeper
that set up the goal of the game, after stopping yet
another Boro attack, Richards quickly threw the ball
to Lee Whitelock, he took one touch and delivered a
peach of a ball to Forde who had wandered out wide right,
he in turn whipped in a superb cross which found the
head of the diving Sammy Marks, 4-1 Manor. Chances came
and went for both sides, but it was the visitors who
had the final say as again some slack defending allowed
them an injury time strike. A great response from the
Manor Boys after the heart ache of the F.A.Cup defeat.
Manor’s M.O.M. went to Nicky Mitchell an outstanding
defensive display. A special mention to Davey Armstrong,
a quality display as make shift right back.
