Essex Senior League

Saturday 8th January 2005

The Manor with a full strength squad fought hard in defence today but Barkingside proved far to strong for the Manor as fitness levels decided the game.

Barkingside pinned the Manor back into their own half for long periods of the game. The first 5 minutes Barkingside could have scored at it not been for the determination of the Manor defence. Tony Barnes working hard to keep the scores level. Johnny Quinn Manor skipper back from a lengthy break showed real class organising his back line and proved how much he has been missed. Prosper Lobe on the odd occasion managing to create some brilliance to take the pressure off the Manor defence.

27 minutes and Carl Prince called into action with a brilliant save from close range. 30 minutes and Prince once again coming to the rescue as Barkingside attack down the right, Carr shooting from 20 yards out Prince palms the ball out for a corner.

The second half exploded in the 47th minute when from a free kick 35 yards out sent a great ball over the top into the path of Tony Barnes who took his shot sweetly to level the scores 1-1.

61 minute and Barkingside collecting the ball from just inside their own half sending a long ball into the path of Simon Thomas, despite a heavy challenge from Barnes managed to find enough room to score 1-3 to Barkingside.

64 minutes gone and its all Barkingside, some class play from their skipper Danny Gilley who was organising most of the play from midfield and forcing the Manor back into their own half.

74 Minutes and Bradley Mills and Jay Felice involved in a rare Manor attack resulting in Connolly hitting his shot wide.

Carl Prince involved yet again with some brilliant goalkeeping displays in the 77th and 81st minute both attempts saved from point blank range.

84th minute and Barkingside score their 4th from Thomas scoring his second of the afternoon looking very composed as he took his opportunity well.

89th Minute and Quinn sending Bradley Mills on a run just knocking the ball over the bar.

A very clinical display by Barkingside today. Some great football played by the visitors and by far the best team the Manor have played this season. Despite The Manor having a full squad to choose from were second best for most of the afternoon.
