Eton Manor found the silky smooth
football skills of Conference League side Canvey Island
a little difficult to deal with. The game was 0-0 until
the 29th minute and the Manor appeared to be handling
themselves well. There were no early signs that Canvey
would walk this game as the Manor spread the ball about
the pitch. The Manor's back four of Marsh, Barnes, Mitchell
and Armstrong looked capable of dealing with Canvey's
strikers. Jeff Minton Canvey's midfield dynamo just
coming back from injury looked assertive on the ball
and could accelerate quickly from a dead ball situation
and simply oozed class looked the biggest threat to
The Braves.

18 minutes and Mitchell's challenge in the Manor area
gave the Gulls their first opportunity to take the lead
as the referee pointed to the spot. Jeff Minton stepped
up to take the Penalty, Carl Prince the Manor hero for
his penalty save in the FA Vase last week looked composed
before the kick, Minton hit the ball low and hard and
Prince was able to make a tremendous save to keep the
score level.

24 minute and The Manor attack Glenn Connolly working
really hard takes the ball down the left sending a great
cross into the danger area Ryan Harrison Canvey's keeper
collecting the ball under Manor pressure.
Canvey now looking good and showing their class counter
attack the Manor, a fabulous ball over the top of the
Manor defence leaving Leon Gordon running towards goal,
prince spotting the danger raced out of his area to
clear the ball.

26 minutes Jeff Minton again collects the ball holding
possession well and found a yard or two and took his
opportunity as he cracks the cross bar with a looping
shot.
29 minutes and another great through ball this time
from McGhee to the feet of Jason Hallett and from short
distance slotted the ball home 1-0 to Canvey.. The Manor
still not showing any signs of being intimidated continued
to work the ball around the pitch. Armstrong stroking
the ball long down the right for Jason Felice but again
cut off by the strong Canvey defence. 32 minutes and
Leon Gordon Scores after some great positioning at the
back post 2-0. The young Manor No7 Bradley Mills showing
grit and determination as he tries to make an opening
for the Manor.

The 2nd half was a different affair. The first substitute
of the game Sammy Marks on for Lee Whitelock. Canvey
now playing some fabulous Football and attacked with
venom on the Manor goal. From the 52nd minute Canvey
where awesome scoring 3 times within 6 minutes put the
game in no doubt. Canvey now 5-0 up with Hallett on
an hatrick and Gordon with two looked in total control
of the game.

68 minutes on the clock and Leon Gordon collecting
the ball and heading towards the Manor goal, unselfeshly
passing a great ball into the path of Hallett who netted
his 4th goal of the night 6-0.
A minute later the Manor grabbing a consolation goal
Paul Docherty taking his opportunity well 6-1,
78 minutes The Manor making two more substitutes, Mills
off for the young George Fullbrook and Steve Whitelock
off for the 15 year old Lewis Jones.
With the clock now ticking away The Manor appeared to
just be enjoying the experience of playing against some
great talent. Canvey finished the better with chances
being scampered by some great goal keeping by Carl Prince.
The game finished 6-1. The Manors young guns gaining
great experience from this Cup Draw. The game was well
officiated by S.Beck, I Searle and N.West. The entire
game was good natured even the crowd having their bit
of fun with The Manor's Davey Armstrong who took stick
for most of the game but retained his sense of humour!
