Essex Senior League |
Weather dents Manor schedule
|
|
Saturday 9th January 2010 |

Snow and icey conditions
have led to a number of postponements
|
Eton
Manor's Christmas and
New Year programme has been completely wiped out by the cold
snap currently sweeping across the country. Even Premier League
games have fallen foul of the weather, so it should be no
surprise that the Essex Senior League has suffered.
Since defeat against
Takeley on 12th December the Manor have seen 3 league games
postponed along with the 2nd leg of their League Cup quarter
final against Tiptree United. The full list of postponements
is below:
19 Dec & 6 Jan
- Tiptree Utd A - Lge Cup
29 Dec - Witham
Town H - League
2 Jan - London
APSA A - League
9 Jan - Tiptree
United H - League
The Manor's next scheduled
fixture is at home to league leaders Burnham Ramblers
on Wednesday 13th January 2010, however, with more adverse
weather forcast this game is already in serious doubt and
an initial pitch inspection will take place on Tuesday afternoon.

Michael Wakefield's run
of clean sheets comes to an abrupt end.
|
Eton Manor's unbeaten
run came to an shuddering hault as an awful first half performance
contributed to a 4-0 home defeat.
Takeley took full advantage
of the Manor's off day to give themselves a 3-0 half time
lead and Joe Galsworthy added a 4th in the second half.

Paul Norris: "Hullbridge
defeat might have been turning point"
|
There couldn't be a
better time to be writing my second notes of the season. We
are playing some really good stuff just at the moment, scoring
bags of goals and looking like a top Essex Senior League side.
As I said in my last
notes we overcame a difficult start to the season by grinding
a few results out. Gritty draws with Enfield 1893 and Southend
Manor along with hard fought scrappy victories over Basildon
and Clapton in the League cup started our season off, but
it was the defeat at Hullbridge in October that really started
to turn things around.

Richard Simpson - Outstanding
performance from the emergency centre forward
|
Eton Manor's recent
revival kicked up a gear as they dismantled Basildon United
4-0. The home side went into the game sitting in second place
in the table whereas Manor had selection headaches, especially
in attack with Danny Clarke suspended, Scott Lovett injured
and Courtney Linton suffering from flu.
However, the decision
to utilise Richard Simpson as an emergency forward paid divedends
as he opened the scoring and had a hand in each of the other
3 goals.

Durrant - "Delighted
to add Chibogu"
|
Manor manager Kevin
Durrant has finally added a new striker to his squad this
week with the signing of Ed Chibogu. The Braves' boss has
been looking to add to his forward options in recent weeks
after reverting to a traditional 4-4-2 formation and had put
in approaches for two other strikers, that had both come to
nothing.
Chibogu has been out
of the game for 2 years after short spell playing for Durrant
at Ilford, having started his career at Ipswich Town, where
he played in the same youth team as Darren Bent and then had
a short spell at Southend United. Chibogu played 70 minutes
on debut in the derby with Barking and impressed with his
touch and pace.
Durrant said: "I'm delighted to get Ed. He's got real
quality. Once we decided to go back to 4-4-2, I knew that
we needed to add another forward. I've got Danny Clarke, who
struggles to do two games in a week and I've got Scott Lovett
who has been carrying a knee injury as well, which leaves
me just with Courtney Linton. So Ed's arrival is very important
to us. He might take 2 or 3 games to get up to full speed,
but once he does I'm convinced he'll score goals."
On the debit side, young full back Joe Nightingill has signed
for Heybridge Swifts of Ryman League Division One North. Joe
spent a year at Eton Manor, but had struggled for fitness
at the start of this season, before finding some form in a
more advanced left sided midfield role. Eton Manor have retained
his Senior League registration.
Everyone at Eton Manor welcomes Ed to the club and wishes
Joe success with Heybridge. |

Neil Barratt - Man of

|
Derby day spoils were
shared in a full blooded competitive game between groundsharers
Eton Manor and Barking.
The home side led through
Lee Pyne's penalty just after the half hour, however, he missed
a second penalty in the second half and the Manor took full
advantage to level through Michael Marin - his first for the
club.

Kevin Durrant - "Delighted"
with the Manor's younger players
|
Eton Manor boss Kevin
Durrant has hailed the impact of Eton Manor's younger players
in their recent upturn in form.
Manor used a number
of teenagers in their 7-1 Essex Senior Cup defeat at Burnham
Ramblers and despite the scale of the defeat the Manor boss
has retained his youngsters as part of the squad.
Durrant said: "At
Burnham we played a very young team against one of the strongest
sides in the league. We were well beaten but it was a great
learning experience for my players. At the moment I can't
get away with picking them all together, but we can feed them
into the side 1 by 1."
The likes of Tony Hadley,
Jamie Merralls, Andrew Gibbons and Ryan Lynch all played in
that match but have come back from the disappointment to be
involved in the following league matches.
Durrant added: "We
don't have a reserve team so we need to keep these talented
kids involved. I'd like to think that these boys along with
the likes of Courtney Linton and Paul Marin will be the mainstays
of the side in 3 or 4 years time." |

The League Cup: Last
won by Manor in 2008
|
Eton Manor booked their
place in the League Cup quarter finals after a nervy 1-0 victory
over Clapton.
Carl Bailey's second
goal of the season was enough to give the Manor the three
points that they required to win Group C.
Manor dominated the
previous meeting in August but threw away a 3-1 lead in the
last 10 minutes to drop 2 points - however, it was clear early
in the game that this was a much improved Clapton side and
the final whistle brought joy and relief in equal measure,
especially after being knocked out of the Gordon Brasted Trophy
by Bowers & Pitsea on Saturday.

a long rage equaliser brought Basildon level in first half
stoppage time.
Tom Nyama, now fully
recovered from his hamstring injury scored a wonderful solo
goal 10 minutes after the break to put the Braves back in
front and Joe May added a third from a trademark free kick.
As in the first half,
Basildon scored in stoppage time to reduce the arrears to

Eton Manor have been
re-instated in the FA Vase following a Football Association
ruling that Mauritius Sports Association fielded an ineligible
player in their FA Vase 1st Qualifying Round Tie.
Manor lost the tie
2-0 after extra time, however, it later transpired that Mauritius
Sports' opening goalscorer Javier Rivera was playing whilst
under suspension.
The FA's official statement
read:
"An
FA Vase Protest Sub Committee was held on Monday 14 September
2009 to consider a protest lodged by Eton Manor against Mauritius
Sports Association UK.
The protest was upheld after considering
the facts surrounding the inclusion of Javier Rivera in the
above tie. The Sub Committee decided that Mauritius Sports
Association UK had breached FA Vase Rule 15(c) by playing
a player whilst under suspension, therefore ineligible.
The Sub Committee decided, in accordance
with its discretionary powers, that Mauritius Sports Association
UK be removed from the Competition and Eton Manor reinstated."
Eton Manor First Team
Coach and Football Secretary Paul Norris attended the hearing
at Wembley Stadium on Monday afternoon. He said: "Obviously
this is not the way we would wish to have gone through to
the next round. We do have sympathy with Mauritius Sports
and ironically it was against Mauritius in the League Cup
last season that we suffered a similar fate and lost a victory
and a place in the quarter finals as a result. However, there
has been a breach of competition rule 15(c) and we welcome
the Football Association's decision. On behalf of Eton Manor
Football Club I would like to thank both the FA and Mauritius
Sports for their professionalism in the handling of this matter."
Eton Manor will now
play high flying Erith Town of the Kent League in the next
round this Sunday, 12noon kick off at Mayesbrook
Park. |
